Unfortunately, the answer is no, it’s not recommended to give your dog smoked salmon. What makes smoked salmon a bad choice for dogs is that smoked salmon is cured, meaning that it contains an excessive amount of salt. Dogs, though, should not be fed anything containing a lot of salt because of the risk of sodium ion poisoning.

Another reason why smoked salmon is not the best thing for your dog to eat is that there’s a slim chance it contains parasites. While it’s only a slim chance, you do want to be on the safe side with this. The parasites poisoning diseas, if untreated, is a fatal condition for dogs.


Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin B-6 and B-12. Although, salmon is already a popular ingredient of many premium dog food, you can add more salmon to your dog’s diet, but make sure that it’s thoroughly cooked and doesn’t contain an excess amount of salt. And remember never to give your dog raw or smoked salmon.
